Songs of the Year #9

#9. "Kilometer" (Aeroplane Italo '84 Remix) - Sebastien Tellier
(Record Makers)

The boys from Aeroplane had a couple of amazing remixes floating around and this one was one of the first of 2009 that caught my ears. Aeroplane take Italo Disco as a starting point for the remix and venture into the land of chunky pads, Giorgio Morodor style synth bass, and early Breakin' style Electro while not really falling into any of those genres. The moaning female vocals in the song are also a nice touch, dressing the top of this retro styled slice of 80's dance funk beautifully. Sebastien Tellier always makes great records, this is no exception!

Songs of the Year #10

#10. "The Deep End" (Holy Ghost! Remix) - Curses!
(Institubes Records)
One of the records that I heard everywhere I went that didn't make me cringe. The original mix is fantastic but Holy Ghost! bring the New York Disco vibe with their remix and take the song to a new level. The Holy Ghost! remix chugs along dropping layers upon layers of classy funk and ornate basslines in it's wake, by the time the vocals float in you are in Heaven! A FUTURE CLASSIC!

I Feel Cream

Yep, she's BACK!
Her new LP "I Feel Cream" is being produced by electro luminaries Digitalism, Simian Mobile Disco, Drums Of Death and Soulwax! It is expected to hit stores in late spring. Here is the B-side from her current single, "Talk to me". It is GREAT!

Peaches "More" mediafire

You've got to give for what you take

After being on hiatus, this blog is back in full effect! We moved to Southeast Denver, rebuilt our studio-it's smaller but more effective, and now we are finally in the process of working on new music. Some things that have been inspiring us:

Krink-some of the best markers in the world!

Pho 75-a really UNGLAMOROUS restaurant in South Denver, but the soup is one of the best we've tasted. From NYC to San Fran to Chicago this soup still trumps. Order the one with everything-beef, tendon and tripe!

"Freedom 90" George Michael-almost 20 years old and this is still stunning. Listening to it now after all this time, it is clear he was confessing a lot to the mainstream about his private life. Listen and enjoy it's glory!

Find Yourself a Friend

When I think about the golden days of disco, the thing that repeatedly pops in my mind is how the music was really great, polished, and smooth; but also forward thinking and carefree. One of my favorite disco songs is "Over & Over" by Sylvester, originally released in 1977. It is one of the most beautiful and delightful songs I have ever had the pleasure of listening to.

Low "Over the Ocean"

I'm over the ocean

Over the hills,
Over the dell
Over the fireline
Over the sand,
Over the plan
Over the empire

And if I belong,
Then I'll be longer than expected
And if I'm wrong,
The mighty and strong will be rejected

from the 1995 album, "Long Division" on Caroline Records
